ABOUT

Rai is an independent artist based in Yorkshire, UK, who works across both traditional fine art and 3D digital art. After studying Fine Art in Winchester School of Art, she expanded her creative practice by venturing into the world of games and digital media, studying Graphics for Games to explore new forms of visual storytelling and interactivity.

Rai’s work explores themes of self-reflection, the subconscious, surrealism, horror, and existentialism, often merging these ideas to create immersive and thought-provoking art. As a 3D artist, she specializes in crafting visuals for games, motion capture, and animation, drawing on her fine art background to bring emotional depth and conceptual nuance to her digital creations. Her practice focuses on uncovering the subconscious and surreal layers of contemporary life, striving to craft cinematic experiences that are visually experimental, emotionally resonant, and deeply immersive.

With a Nepalese–British background, Rai draws inspiration from both Asian and Western cultures, embracing the duality of her heritage. This cross-cultural perspective enables her to examine and critique the intricate interplay of societal expectations, traditions, belief systems, and unspoken rules, grounding her work in both personal reflection and universal human experience.

In 2025, Rai completed her debut graduate short animation, The Strangers Within, a film that explored the psychological dimensions of identity and social expectations. The short went on to win Best Animation at the International White Rose Film Festival. That same year, she co-founded the indie team CatPawStudio with a group of university friends, developing a Slavic folklore-inspired narrative game as part of the Tranzfuser Project. Through this collaboration, Rai continues to expand her artistic practice, merging visual storytelling and interactivity to create immersive and emotionally resonant narrative experiences.

Although the film industry is a new avenue for her, Rai approaches it with curiosity, dedication, and a strong desire to collaborate across creative disciplines. She holds a deep appreciation for the horror genre, viewing it as a boundless space for psychological exploration and experimental storytelling. Influenced by surrealism and its dreamlike, illogical qualities, she seeks to continue expanding her practice—bridging the worlds of art, film, and interactive media while working alongside diverse creatives from all walks of life.
